Wrington is twinned with Villeneuve-lès-Béziers, a community in the Herault Languedoc region of France. Villeneuve were searching for a compatible English community with which to arrange a twinning relationship and as there are several direct flights each week between Béziers and Bristol, they researched this area of the country. They discovered the Wrington Village website and apparently liked what they saw of the village and its activities, inviting the Council to consider a twinning arrangement. Following Wrington’s enthusiastic acceptance, Villeneuve proposed a symbolic signing of a simple Declaration of Friendship to be carried out in both communities, with this formalised in Wrington in October 2010.
There is now a thriving Twinning Association which meets regularly, with the aims of promoting and encouraging relations between Wrington and Villeneuve, maintaining communication links with the twinning committee in Villeneuve-lès-Béziers and in facilitating the exploration and development of mutual interests between individuals, businesses, organisations and other groups in the two communities. New members are welcomed, with the annual fee £5. If interested, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the Association’s website.
If you have the opportunity please try to visit Villeneuve; their website is here.
